Programme dates and areas of focus for 2016/17

Creative Use of ICT: 20th April 2017

NQTS will be exposed to a range of easily accessible ICT resources that can be integrated across the curriculum to enhance learning.

Physical education: 27th April 2017

NQTS will look at how to run a challenging PE lesson and the role of effective assessment within PE.

Special Education Needs pt2: 11th May 2017

In this session NQTS will look specifically at Speech and Language and Dyslexia in the classroom and gather a range of strategies for identifying and supporting children with these needs.

Art: 8th June 2017

NQTS will experience a range of practical ideas and techniques to use within their art lessons. Participants will also look at how to creatively link art with other areas of the curriculum.

Where Next? - Celebration: 22nd June 2017

NQTS will look at potential leadership possibilities and begin to understand the role they have in the wider school community.

Orientation: 14th September 2017

NQTS will gain an understanding of expectations and carry out a skills audit to help shape the programme to their needs. They will look at different ways of managing their time effectively throughout their teaching career.

Conditions for learning: 28th September 2017

NQTS will gain an understanding of elements which can positively impact on the classroom environment. They will consider the importance of the learning environment; routines and organisation. (For this module EYFS practitioners will get specific training from a specialist leader of education in early years).

Building Positive Relationships: 12th October 2017

NQTS will gain an understanding of how to foster positive relationships in their professional capacity. They will be given practical experiences of positive strategies for dealing with more challenging situations.

Behaviour for Learning: 2nd November 2017

NQTS will gain an understanding of influences on children’s behaviour and through reflection on personal experience they will consider the impact of their own responses. It will equip them with a range of strategies which can be effectively employed in a variety of situations.

Assessment for Learning: 18th November 2017

NQTS will consider their understanding of what AfL means. They will gain knowledge of a range of AfL techniques and be given the opportunity to analyse the use of AfL in their own classroom. (For this module, EYFS practitioners will get specific training from a Specialist Leader in Education in Early Years).

Questioning and Differentiation: 30th November 2017

NQTS will gain an understanding of the essential role well-timed questioning plays in assessing and extending children’s learning and the impact of teacher’s responses. They will gain an understanding of the importance of effective differentiation and how strategies differ according to the group of children.

Guided Reading and Phonics: 11th January 2018

NQTS will develop their systems for delivering quality guided reading sessions using a range of texts. They will acquire practical ideas on how to deliver effective multi-sensory phonics sessions.

Writing: 25th January 2018

NQTS will develop their understanding of paired, shared and modelled writing. They will be taken through a range of strategies for developing their practice in class. (For this module EYFS practitioners will get specific training from a Specialist Leader of Education in Early Years.

Special Educational Needs pt1: 8th February 2018

NQTS will gain an understanding of the SEND code of practise (2014) and look at strategies for helping children with ASD in the mainstream classroom.

Maths: 1st March 2018

NQTS will reflect on the latest research into how children learn from mathematics. This will develop their range of strategies for teaching maths investigations and problem solving in and engaging and challenging way. (For this module EYFS practitioners will get a specific training from a specialist Leader of Education in Early Years).

Science: 15th March 2018

NQTS will acquire strategies which enable them to deliver effective and engaging science lessons with techniques for managing a class during investigations.
